Baseball is back and that means it’s time to catch up on all things Spring Training. Arizona’s Cactus League is one of the most popular Spring Training events in the US. Fifteen Major league teams, perfect weather, and the ultimate fan experience —autographs, “selfies” with the stars of Major League baseball–is a thrill for young and old.
Scottsdale provides the best, “Fan Friendly” Baseball experience in the Valley of the Sun, where three teams call the community their home: The SF Giants have been at Scottsdale Stadium since 1984. The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies share the valley’s premier stadium, Salt River Fields. Here are five reasons to attend Spring Training:
- Baseball, Baseball, and More Baseball
It’s the reason for the season. You get to see the great game up close in cozy ballparks in a laid-back atmosphere. Scottsdale Stadium, home of the San Francisco Giants, is the perfect setting.
2. The Weather
In February and March, the Valley of the Sun enjoys just about perfect weather. Most days, the skies are clear, the sun is shining and the temperature is in the mid-60s.
3. Fan Access
It’s impressive how close fans can get to Major League players during spring training. Especially the first couple of weeks before games are in full swing and players are working out on the back fields. You might even bump into Adrian Beltre or Cole Hamels without even necessarily trying.
4. The sightseeing
Try McDowell Mountain Regional Park, 40 minutes west of Scottsdale Stadium. Or, take a short trip up to Fountain Hills, where you can visit the “World’s Highest Fountain” which sends a powerful jet stream of water hundreds of feet into the beautiful clear blue sky. Enjoy shops, galleries, great restaurants and one of the largest public art collections in the Southwest! Only 20 minutes north of Fountain Hills, Saguaro Lake and its beautiful marina restaurant and Desert Belle Lake Cruiser, offer a great spot to see natural beauty, mountain and canyon scenery and miles of lake views.
5. Entertainment on Steroids!
Within a few miles of Salt River Fields: Enjoy casino gambling and Las Vegas style entertainment at Talking Stick Resort; Visit the Butterfly Wonderland, the largest butterfly conservatory in the country with over 3,000 fluttering butterflies; The OdySea Aquarium is the largest marine aquarium in the Southwest United States, or experience the feeling of freefalling through the air at iFly, an indoor skydiving facility, in a super cool and safe environment.
More than 200,000 fans from all over the country gather in the Valley of the Sun to enjoy their favorite National League and American League teams, and tickets can sell out fast for popular match-ups.
