A Historic Pony Express Ride Returns to Fountain Hills

Fountain Hills, Arizona, will once again play a role in a beloved Western tradition as the Navajo County Sheriff’s Posse Pony Express rides through town on Thursday, January 29, on its journey to Scottsdale’s Parada del Sol Parade and the kickoff of Western Week.

This annual event celebrates Arizona’s rich Western heritage and gives residents a unique opportunity to witness living history on horseback.

When Will the Pony Express Arrive in Fountain Hills?

Pony Express riders are expected to arrive in Fountain Hills just before 3:00 pm. The riders will travel from Saguaro Boulevard then West on  Avenue of the Fountains to Town Hall, where the community will have the chance to meet the riders and horses, take photos, and experience the excitement up close. Residents are encouraged to line the route and welcome the riders, and for one of the best viewing spots, join us at RE/MAX Sun Properties to see all the action as the Pony Express rides through town.

A Tradition Dating Back to 1957

The modern Pony Express ride began in 1957 and follows a historic route starting in Holbrook, traveling through Payson and Fountain Hills, and ending in Scottsdale. The ride honors the legendary Pony Express mail service while celebrating Arizona’s Western identity.

Each year, the event draws spectators, history enthusiasts, and families eager to experience a piece of the Old West brought to life.

Western Week & Parada del Sol in Scottsdale

The Pony Express arrival marks the beginning of Western Week in Scottsdale, a city proudly known as “The West’s Most Western Town.” Western Week features:

• The world-famous Parada del Sol Parade
• Rodeos and equestrian events
• The Scottsdale Indian Festival
• Western art, culture, and heritage celebrations

The Pony Express is a symbolic highlight of the week, connecting communities across Arizona through history, horsemanship, and tradition.
