It’s time to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails! The Fountain Hills Hiking Challenge is back for November, inviting you to explore our scenic desert trails while celebrating the beauty of the Sonoran landscape.
Whether you’re a casual hiker or an experienced adventurer, you can complete this year’s challenge by choosing one of two options:
Complete 6 scenic hikes throughout November
Or log a total of 35 miles during the month
Register online at FountainHillsaz.gov and receive an exclusive commemorative Hiking Challenge T-shirt!
T-Shirt Pick Up
The Hiking Challenge T-shirts will be available for pick up beginning November 1st at the Fountain Hills Hiking Challenge Kickoff Party. After November 1st, T-shirts can be picked up at Town Hall Monday-Thursday 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Town Hall is located at 16705 E Avenue of the Fountain
Thanks to the Sonoran Conservancy of Fountain Hills, you can even join guided group hikes on each featured trail. To participate in these guided events, preregistration is required at scfh.org/events.
Featured Hikes in the 2025 Fountain Hills Hiking Challenge
November 1 – Lake Overlook Trail
Enjoy a short, rewarding climb with panoramic views of Fountain Park, the iconic fountain, and Four Peaks in the distance. This is the perfect trail to kick off the challenge and capture those “only in Fountain Hills” sunrise or sunset moments.
November 5 – Mesquite Hollow Loop
This moderate loop trail winds through beautiful desert scenery filled with saguaro and mesquite trees. Keep your eyes open for desert wildlife while enjoying a peaceful, less-traveled route.

November 10 – Ridgeline Hike
A local favorite! The Ridgeline Trail offers sweeping views of the McDowell Mountains and Verde River Valley. It’s a moderately challenging trek with a few steep sections that are worth every step for the vistas at the top.
November 14 – Andrew Kinsey to Hitching Post Trail
This scenic connector route offers a taste of adventure as it meanders through desert washes and rolling foothills. It’s a great hike for those looking for a bit more distance and varied terrain.
November 19 – Sonoran Trails (Short & Full Loop Options)
Choose your challenge: the shorter loop is perfect for a quick morning hike, while the full loop rewards hikers with stunning views and a true desert immersion. The Sonoran Trail system is one of Fountain Hills’ gems for both beginners and seasoned hikers.

November 24 – North Leg & Western Loop Trails
Located in the Adero Canyon Trailhead area, this pair of trails offers dramatic ridgeline views, desert flora, and opportunities to spot wild birds and other desert wildlife. A great option to stretch your legs before Thanksgiving!
November 28 – “Walk Off the Turkey” Hike: Golden Eagle to Adero Canyon
Cap off the challenge with a post-Thanksgiving adventure! This trail offers both a full loop and one-way option, winding through stunning desert terrain with plenty of photo-worthy moments. A perfect way to wrap up the month of outdoor fun and gratitude.
