Honoring Our Heroes: Memorial Day in Fountain Hills

As we prepare to enjoy the sunshine and the long weekend, let’s pause to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day—a time to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

The Fountain Hills community will gather in remembrance during the Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony, taking place on Monday, May 26 at 9:00 a.m. at the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial located on El Lago Boulevard in Fountain Park.

This year’s ceremony holds special significance as it marks the 20th anniversary of the Veterans Memorial, a meaningful site that pays tribute to those who served and sacrificed. The event is organized by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507, led by Commander Don Hervey, a proud Navy Vietnam Veteran.

The program will feature a keynote address by Fountain Hills resident, Colonel Patrick Garman, U.S. Army (Ret.).

The annual Memorial Day observance is a collaborative effort between our local Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs):

• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507
• American Legion Post 58
• Marine Corps League Detachment 1439

Each year, these organizations rotate leadership responsibilities, showcasing the unity and respect shared across all branches of service.

Attendees can expect:

·          A moving tribute to fallen service members

·         Seating and shade provided by VFW Post 7507

·         Flags lining the walkway around Fountain Park, provided by the Four Peaks Rotary Club, creating a powerful visual tribute.

You are encouraged to arrive early and take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom. Whether you’re a veteran, a military family member, or a grateful citizen, this ceremony is a heartfelt opportunity to stand united in remembrance.
