Memorial Day Commemorative at Fountain Park

Fountian Hills Beth Kohoutek May 22, 2024

Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony on Monday, May 27th, at 9 a.m. at the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial at Fountain Park.

It's a long-standing tradition in our community, where our local Veterans Service Organizations (VSO) come together to honor and remember those who have served. This year, the ceremony is organized by American Legion Post 58, with members from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507 and Marine Corps League Detachment 1439 also taking part.

After the ceremony, you invite to join the American Legion Post 58 for coffee and donuts, a chance to connect and reflect on the significance of the day.  Keynote speaker, 1SG Waya Schiller of the Arizona National Guard (ret), will share their insights and experiences.

Taps Across America

Later in the day, at 3 p.m., you'll have another special moment with "Taps Across America." Fountain Hills Brenda Kalivianakis will perform Taps at the Veterans Memorial, joined by narrator David Lovrak and musicians Debbie Fisher, Tom Furr, and Bonnie Furr. It's a nationwide tribute, a moment of silence to honor all those who have served our country.

Both events are open to everyone, and you are encouraged to wear patriotic attire or uniforms if you have them. And if you can't attend in person, we invite you to take a moment wherever you are to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Four Peaks Rotary Club will keep with the tradition of lining the walkway around Fountain Lake Park and the Avenue of the Fountains with American Flags on Memorial Day.

Let's come together as a community to honor, remember, and reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.
