Volunteer: Home Delivered Meals in Fountain Hills

Do you ever get a hankering for a home-cooked meal but do not have the ability to prepare it? Look no further! Home Delivered Meals is here to save the day.

 

Home Delivered Meals is designed to help individuals who are recovering from surgeries or hospital stays and allows homebound patients to remain in the comfort of their own homes.

 

Fountain View Village volunteers prepare and deliver meals daily. This partnership allows the program to keep costs low and meet dietary requirements. Meals cost $6.50 and include an insulated bag of a hot entree, salad, milk, fruit, and dessert. Alternative meal options are also available for those with medical restrictions.

 

Individuals can choose which days they want their food delivered based on availability. The volunteers deliver the food daily at noon, including all major holidays. Another local organization will add a unique touch to the holidays by including a card or handmade ornament.

 

Additionally, the visit includes a quick wellness check since this may be the only interaction for the individual. If someone does not answer the door or their phone, and the emergency contact cannot be reached, the Sheriff’s department is dispatched to their location to perform a wellness check.

 

The volunteers of Home Delivered Meals make this program stay alive. There are currently 200 active volunteers; making it the largest volunteer group in Fountain Hills. One coordinator is assigned to a day of the week and teams of two deliver the meals. Each team delivers once a month.

 

The program was founded in 1990 by Marti Lemieux with a mission of providing nutritional meals for individuals of all ages who required meal assistance. Fountain View Village has been a partner and supporter since 2001.
