This event invites people from all around the globe to come together and appreciate the beauty and significance of our Moon, while also delving into space science, exploration, and human culture.

What to Expect

This free, NASA-sponsored event offers something for everyone—whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or simply curious about the night sky. Here’s what’s in store:

  • Telescope Viewing: Get an up-close look at the Moon through telescopes provided by the Night Sky Tourist Star Dudes. Witness the Moon's craters, mountains, and seas like never before!
  • Lunar Talk with Ted Blank: Don’t miss the opportunity to hear from Ted Blank, a NASA Solar System Ambassador, who will share insights about our closest celestial neighbor. Bring a chair and settle in for this discussion that connects the Moon to space science and exploration.
  • Hands-On Activities: The event also features activities for all ages. Hosted by the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association, Night Sky Tourist, Fountain Hills Library, the International Dark Sky Discovery Center, and Experience Fountain Hills, these activities are designed to spark curiosity and deepen your understanding of the Moon and the night sky.

Fountain Hills: A Dark Sky Community

Did you know that Fountain Hills is recognized as an International Dark Sky Community? This prestigious designation highlights the town’s commitment to preserving the night sky and minimizing light pollution. As one of only a handful of communities worldwide with this designation, Fountain Hills offers some of the best stargazing opportunities in Arizona. Events like International Observe the Moon Night are a perfect way to experience the town’s dedication to protecting our night skies.
